Who is Midnight? I am a dedicated technophile, second-rate political commentator, wannabe philosopher, and former Marine. I graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. I spent almost four years as an officer in the Marine Corps from 2003 to 2007 before rejoining civilian life. I deployed to Iraq from February to August 2006. “Midnight” has been my user name on numerous websites since 2000.
In March of 2006 I was contacted by an editor at the New York Times to write as a guest Op-Ed writer. My “Frontlines” material can be found here. These blogs detail interesting, insightful, and sometimes comical aspects of my deployment to Iraq. I then had two more opportunities to write for the New York Times in the “Homefires” section. These blogs detail my experiences after Iraq dealing with reintegration as well as my separation from the Marine Corps . My “Homefires” material can be found here. On 29 October, 2006 my blog was featured in a news story on Wired.com and later appeared on BoingBoing.net.
What is The Hushed Casket?
The Hushed Casket (THX - website) is my local video gaming community in Alabama. I co-founded THX in 2002 with a friend in the halls of the Research Institute at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. It has since grown to be more than a webpage on Bungie.net and a regular Halo LAN party. We are now a group of gamers, family, and friends who enjoy participating in many events together.
