Bruce, thanks for the kind words.

I consider .380 ACP / 9x17 Makarov the minimum adequate caliber for home defense. Federal Hydra Shock rounds are definitely a quality hollow point projectile. When I tested ammo penetration from my Glock 9mm pistols I found "gold dot" rounds to exhibit superior mushrooming to Hydra Shocks. Gold dots are sold from Speer Lawman and a couple other companies. Anyway, you might want to test your Hydra Shocks against some competing ammo in your personal pistol. I can give you details on how if you're interested.

Being comfortable and proficient with your weapon will get you far more than caliber. I would rather face an idiot with a .44 magnum than someone who can dot my eye with a .380. It sounds like you have set yourself up for success. Best of luck.

Great article!

I am not military although I have learned a lot from my son who is with the Virginia National Guard and completed two tours, one in Asia and the Middle East.

For stopping power I have my handgun loaded with Hydro Shock rounds with the hopes of less over penetration. With these shells even my little .380 reports to be within FBI standards of penetration.

I enjoyed finding your blog site and reading the common sense writing you post.

At first, I thought it was just security alarms.

Well, firearms are truly effective though they require big responsibility.
