Holidays a Great Time for Beer Lovers

Posted by Jeff Barnett on December 19th, 2007

Yesterday I tried yet another seasonal winter beer and found myself happier for it.  This one was Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve Ale.  I generally trust the Rogue Brewery, so I decided to try it sight unseen.  It’s very good, and reminds me heavily of Rogue Dead Guy Ale.  The Samuel Adams Holiday Sampler Pack is also a great buy for beer lovers.  It’s got two seasonal beers inside that I consider excellent: Holiday Porter and Winter Lager.  The Cream Stout is also excellent, but I don’t believe it’s seasonal anymore, and I certainly hope I’ll be able to buy it after winter is over.  I encourage anyone to try some of the great seasonal beers available this winter, especially if you’re one of the poor souls who hasn’t ventured outside American Light Lagers (Bud, Coors, Michelob, etc).  There is a world of taste out there if you’re willing to try.

Being stationed in Germany will ruin a person for American “light lagers”. Thank the PTB that microbrewerys rose while I was gone!
