Ice cream, insurgents, and copyright infringement
Welcome to another glorious day in Camp Fallujah, Iraq, where the men are men and the sheep are nervous.
I discovered the other day that the chow hall serves Baskins Robins ice cream. Yep, all you want and with as many toppings as you desire..err…that you can find. They also have sweet tea. Man, I can’t get this stuff in California! It’s plenty sweet, too. No pansy, bitter, Un-American tea here. Nope, any more sugar and this stuff would be super-saturated. That’s actually a real term that describes a mixture that has been saturated with a substance beyond it’s capacity at a given temperature, but I digress.
This week I also discovered something really cool: the movie server. Apparently someone took it upon themselves to offer 1.5 terrabytes of movies, television shows, music, music videos, and informational programming free to anyone who might wish to access it from the multi-national forces west-Iraq (MNF-W Iraq) homepage. They are high quality as well, obviously ripped from DVDs. This level of copyright infringement by a DoD agency is almost ludicrous, but it sure boosts morale! If there’s one thing I learned from Napster, it is to get while the gettin’s good. I’m talking 4 seasons of “24,” 1.5 seasons of “Lost,” and a metric shit-ton of movies…even bad ones like “The Stepford Wives.” My team’s 250GB external hard drive is busy busy busy.
Right now it’s time for me to get some rest. Take care.
Hey dude, glad you are doing well. I am especially glad that you are being brought to use via the blogosphere. I haven’t had much time to participate much on the forums, but I read your updates religiously. Take care and you have my family’s prayers!
